160+ Promises of God from Scripture

  • by
Bible

The Bible is simply jam-packed with promises made to us by God. On the grand scale, God’s ultimate promise is to restore and renew all things. (In Revelation 21:5 God tells us, “Behold, I am making all things new.”) There are many details of what this restoration will look like, and what God promises us here and now. When we start digging into the promises of God in the Bible, we find that he promises us many things:

  • his help and guidance,
  • his faithfulness,
  • our salvation,
  • wisdom,
  • peace, joy, and love,
  • riches in heaven,
  • adoption into his family,
  • strength and power,
  • his provision,
  • eternal life,
  • deliverance (from enemies, from danger, from temptation),
  • healing,
  • and renewal.

Knowing the promises of God can help us in our daily lives, to be able to navigate both big and small decisions, and to conquer fear, temptation, and danger.

Nehemiah was able to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem in 445BC because he knew the promises of God and was able to confidently claim those promises as his own.

Jesus, too, was able to defeat the devil during his 40 days of temptation in the desert because he knew the Scriptures.

When we know what God has promised us, we can confidently claim those things in our own lives.

Here are 162 promises of God that you can claim in your life.

160 Promises of God from Scripture

God’s Promises to Israel

We can think of the Bible as a grand story of our creation, our decision to turn away from God, and God’s rescue mission to restore and redeem all things. In the Old Testament, we see God walk with the people of Israel and promise them salvation, freedom, and redemption. These things come in a form that the Israelites don’t expect: instead of a conqueror who defeats the Roman Empire and gives the Israelites freedom here and now, Jesus overturns the power structures of the world and defeats Satan and death itself, taking up all of humanity and bringing us close, again, to God himself.

All of the promises of God that we find in the Bible are based on this grand narrative and the promises that God made to Israel for salvation, freedom, and redemption.

  • The almighty LORD God of Israel promises salvation and righteousness (Isaiah 45:1-13)
  • The Sovereign LORD your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel promises freedom (Isaiah 48:12-22)
  • The LORD promises to reestablish the land of Israel (Isaiah 49:8-26)
  • The LORD will comfort Israel again and rescue those who trust in him (Isaiah 51:1-23)
  • The Messiah will bring them out of darkness and captivity unto light and freedom (2 Nephi 3:5)

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. – 1 John 1:9

Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. – Ezekiel 36:25-26

So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. – Romans 6:11

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance-an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. – 1 Peter 1:3-4

So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord-who is the Spirit-makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. – 2 Corinthians 3:18
